In a UN report that dates from the 3rd of May, 2007 by the FAO based in Rome called "Organic Agriculture and Food Security" the following extracts appeared: " organic agriculture is not a phenomenon belonging to developped countries. In 2006 it was practiced by 120 countries on 31 millions hectares and represented 40 millions dollars on the market.... The principle characteristics of organic agriculture are that is that it uses local means and methods of production and does not rely on fertilizers produced by burning petroleum: resorting to natural processes reduces costs and helps the land resist to climate change. States should integrate organic agriculture into their national priorities. Models suggest that organic agriculture can satisfy world food demands, just like today's conventional agriculture, but with a much smaller impact on the environment. The UN specialist on world hunger, Jean Ziegler adds " the death of poeple by hunger does not obey the rules of fatality. Behind each victim there is an assasin...The equation is simple: Whoever has money eats quickly. Those who don't suffer, becomes weak, and die."

Despite Europen directives, the opinion of the UN, the senat, scientists, agronomersaffirm the urgency to preserve the biodiversity of plants destined toward food, the association Kokopelli that claims the right to commercialize old seeds has been accused of illegal and dangerous sales of seeds. However, for 15 years the association proposes gardeners and farmers an alternative. In today's consumer society the biggest culpability for conventional seeds is to be successful in reproduction and adaptable to a number of conditions without agro-chemicals. It seems this is the fault of KOKOPELLI …At the hour when we are being made to believe that manufactured, genetically modified, chemical, fossil fuel, based production is the only possibility to assure the food supply, propogating autonomous seed distribution is reprehensible and dangerous..... Today, the potential loss of KOKOPELLI is a step toward genetic uniformity and the intensification of agricultural production. The disappearence of rich and « real » biodiversity based on genetic variability of a multitude of local varieties can never be replaced by a limited number of cloned species. Please support biodiversity by purchasing Kokopelli !!! |

ELIANT - European Alliance of Initiatives for Applied Anthroposophy - is working to ensure, in view of growing European integration, that legislative framework conditions are created to safeguard the various aspects of applied anthroposophy, including education, nutrition and agriculture, special needs (curative) education and social therapy, medicine and therapeutic disciplines.
It urges the need for policies and a European legislative framework which give people real diversity of choice when making decisions that affect quality of life and cultural diversity. The ELIANT campaign will pursue this goal until it is achieved and is very glad to collaborate closely with other organisations and institutions with similar aims. Every signature represents a gain for this campaign. The Alliance describes and publicises its aims and mode of work in a Charter. Please support the Charter’s aims with your signature
